New Investment – Real Time Production Monitoring System
Auburn, NY. Currier Plastics recently made an additional investment to upgrade to a Real Time Production Monitoring Software System at their facility. The total package included the monitoring software and hardware, system installation, and training for the production team including production managers, process engineers, cell leaders and all operators. The system was designed based on feedback from all of them. The addition of monitors throughout the facility adds a quick visual of each machine’s production status in real time. Technicians and process engineers know immediately if a production order is running at or below projected cycle time. “Having the capability to monitor 39 machines with a quick glance has helped our production crew stay on top of all jobs, knowing what needs immediate attention” says Jeff Woodhams, Cell Leader at Currier Plastics. “The Production Monitoring software is a powerful, yet easy to use package that is integrated into our Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) system to help control scheduling, estimating, job costing, production control and financials and is part of our Lean Initiative (named V² which stands for Value x Velocity, an integral part of our culture) at Currier Plastics,” says Al Gross, VP of Operations, “The cost of quality for each job has been reduced because of our ability to react quicker,” he adds. This is another step Currier Plastics is making to further evolve into an energy conscientious company. Because plastics conversion already has a lower raw energy consumption than glass, Currier Plastics is doing their part by investing in new, more energy efficient equipment that will help them drive glass to plastic customer conversions and future market trends in the plastic packaging industry.
