The Situation

Through Currier’s continuous improvement process, the team recognized opportunities for process improvements, cost optimization, and significant environmental benefits at a client’s filling line for both a 1-liter and 3-liter product.

Our Solution

To address these challenges, Currier embarked on a strategic collaboration with key partners. This project was multifaceted, including improvements in process, packaging, shipping, and environmental impact.

Process

The team initiated collaboration with our automation supplier to address these challenges. Advanced palletizing and matching depalletizing systems were installed on both ends. This automation reduced manual labor and waste, improved ergonomics by eliminating repetitive lifting, and prevented bottle damage by removing the need for a bottle descrambler.

Packaging

Currier partnered with a packaging supplier to design new trays that enhanced packaging efficiency, safety, and minimized excess materials. The transition to CP1 pallets allowed the re-purposing of pallets, further reducing wood waste and costs.

Environmental Impact

All these efforts combined have led to impressive environmental benefits. Eliminating corrugated boxes, reducing plastic bag consumption, and overall reduction of shipping miles traveled, all contributed to a significant reduction in CO2 emissions.

Shipping

Currier also contracted with Amazon to optimize freight management. By using Amazon’s return loads, it eliminated unnecessary travel from Delaware to New York, saving on logistics costs and reducing road mileage. This approach cut down daily box truckloads, freeing up warehouse space and improving time and cost efficiencies.

The Result

  • Annual Savings: $90,000
  • Decrease in CO2 emissions: Over 340,000 Kilos
  • Corrugated Boxes Eliminated: Over 86,000
  • Plastic Bags Eliminated: Over 170,000
  • Reduced Shipping Miles: Over 78,000 miles
  • Truckload Capacity: Average 56% Improvement
  • Operator Headcount: Reduced by 1
