Remembering Founder with Dedication of Special Employee Courtyard

Auburn, NY Currier Plastics recently celebrated their company founder by dedicating a newly constructed employee courtyard to Mr. Raymond J. Currier. In 1982, Ray Currier started Currier Plastics with a strong belief of treating customers & employees with the upmost of respect and attention. This approach ultimately became the foundation of his business model. Currier Plastics started with 2 injection molding machines and 3 employees, 2 of which are still with the company to this day.

“After forty years of working for another local plastics processor, Ray decided he had the formula for success,” says Harold Bobbett who was employee number 2 and who retired as the Tool Room Manager after 20 years at Currier Plastics. Ray is remembered as a creative person with a heart who not only designed the injection molded parts that got the company started, but also had a small woodshop on sight for building crafts. Employees were often the recipient of handmade items such as a birdhouse or a cradle decorated with an image of a train burned into the headboard for their firstborn. Ray enjoyed painting landscapes and several of his paintings are on the wall of John Currier’s office, Ray’s son and President of Currier Plastics.

Although Currier has more than 120 employees today, the culture is much the same as when Ray was alive. “Treat your employees and your customers fairly and they will respect you and reciprocate,” says Gary Kieffer, VP of New Product Development and employee number 3. Still with Currier, employee number 4 is Richard Bobbett, Master Scheduler. John Currier is counted as number 5 as he started 6 months after the company opened. “Ray would have been proud of the accomplishments of the team and we wanted to recognize his importance and so we dedicated the courtyard in his honor,” adds Kieffer. The courtyard was landscaped by the employees and contains a gazebo where they can enjoy their free time.

Currier Plastics is located in the heart of central New York and has been custom molding for a variety of industries such as plastic packaging, beauty and cosmetics, amenities, household consumables, electronic connectors and medical measuring devices since 1982.
